1. Attorney Bierhans was named Lawyer of the Year by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for his work persuading the U.S. Department of the Interior to grant 95-year old Salvatore Del Deo a special use permit for the shack in the Cape Cod National Seashore.

2. Our year began with a successful and substantial monetary verdict in a business dispute involving our client, a restaurant owner, against the property owner. The verdict was appealed by the property owner and the case was later settled and the appeal was dismissed.

3. For the 28th consecutive year, Attorney Bierhans was awarded a Martindale AV Preeminent rating.

4. For the 10th consecutive year, Attorney Bierhans received a Super Lawyers rating.

5. With the assistance of co-counsel Anthony Mavronicolas, Attorney Bierhans negotiated directly with General Counsel in the Department of the Interior and negotiated a successful resolution of the DelDeo Provincetown dune shack case. The settlement was widely reported in local and national media.

6. Attorney Bierhans formed, and became Vice President of, the Cape Cod and Islands Physician Council; an engaged group of physicians working to address physician wellness and improve patient care. The nonprofit just had its second successful event.

7. The firm acted as counsel for Buyers and Sellers in multiple successfully concluded commercial real estate transactions.

8. As a firm, we defended, and ultimately settled, multiple ADA cases in federal court in which our innkeeper clients were sued for alleged deficiencies in their websites. The cases involved the issue of weather “testers” that called local innkeepers, but had no intention of visiting the inns, had standing to sue. The issue nationally continues to be unsettled. We represented clients from Dennis to Provincetown.

9. Attorney Bierhans continued to serve as President of Cape Wellness Collaborative, now in its’ tenth year of funding integrative services for Cape and Island cancer patients. In addition, thanks to the great work of CEO Abigail Field and staff, CWC moved into a large, beautiful new office space in S. Yarmouth.

10. At the request of judges in Barnstable Probate Court, Attorney Bierhans served as a court appointed Conservator and Special Personal Representative in complex probate litigation.

11. Attorney Bierhans was honored to be the Keynote speaker at the Nauset High School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

12. We formed over 15 new nonprofit organizations on the Cape for new clients.

13. Collectively, the firm acted as counsel for both Buyers and Sellers in the sale of multiple local businesses.

14. Our firm settled multiple personal injury cases throughout the year involving motor vehicle accidents, dental malpractice, premises liability and product liability.

15. Watch for upcoming news about an award honoring Attorney Bierhans, as well as his return to the board of a nonprofit where he previously served as President.

16. The Law Office of Bruce Bierhans added Deena Kane, a former administrator at Falmouth District Court, to our paralegal staff. Deena joins Lauren Walsh, who will celebrate her third anniversary with the firm this year. And, of course, Deena and Lauren team with the amazing Office Manager, Nancy Bierhans. Nancy has been doing the job since 1989!
